Kembalilah Kepadaku, Meskipun Masa Kami Bersama Hanya Singkat is the second chapter to follow Tergenang. This is a body of work that is intended for continuous growth.
It explores the interlaced grief that follows leaving a home one has created away from ‘home’, not out of choice, but out of necessity. The piece of writing acts as an open love letter to the places and people that Murat has found a home in. It reflects on the lingering awareness that the time spent in these spaces was destined to be brief.
This piece also reflects on their multicultural relationships, and how their Javanese and Singaporean heritage subconsciously shapes the way they navigate their way through life. This sense of displacement also extends into Murat’s exploration of translation between languages, cultures, and emotions, and the difficulty of fully expressing what is felt in one’s mother tongue. Through writing and memory, Murat considers what is lost, changed and carried across when language becomes a vessel for connection.
